I truly believe if she wasn’t sabotaged, it would’ve been one of her best albums. She was forced to compromise and threw together an album that in time, has proven to be her worst. I honestly believe these songs and a few others were most likely written or changed drastically during the final stages of the mastering process to cater to the masses and lighten up what would’ve been a darker, more dramatic, boundary pushing album that would’ve blown BTW out of the water.Īs an avid follower of Gaga during her primal years, I know she had a completely different idea/aesthetic/creative process for this album and those wishes weren’t granted by her label. just feel like half baked ideas of what could’ve been decent songs. Regular Edition: 12 songs Deluxe Edition: 15 songs Here is what I think Gaga's ARTPOP should have been like: However, I could not leave out "SEXXX Dreams" and "Venus" since I love both of these tracks and so the former two got placed as bonuses- but I think that if this had been the arrangement for the album, it would have been more received and liked at the time. I looked at the tracklisting from the original album, heard some of the unreleased songs and instrumentals online and this was what I came up with, which can be subject to change base on what people's preferences are with the ARTPOP era.įor the most part, this was easy to decide based on the sound of the songs selected below, but I had a hard time deciding whether "Gypsy" and "Fashion!" should be bonus tracks or part of "Pop" selection.
While listening to the album, I realized that it would have been better if Gaga had done several changes, such as leaving the duets out of it and then having the album set up to where we would go from the "Art" tracks to the "Pop" ones and showcase the journey that Gaga wanted her album to emphasize.Ĭonsidering all of the alternates that could have come from Gaga maintaining complete control of the album instead of her management, I decided that it would still be a single album since I believe she had enough songs to get the concept of "ARTPOP" down in one album. Of course, the album's reception has gotten better since then due to critics and fans going back and re-evaluating it, realizing that it was ahead of its time and Gaga being "Gaga" at her finest. So I have been listening to "Venus" a lot recently and it got me back into ARTPOP and how it did not do so well when it was released six years ago.
